New Jersey Veterans Memorial Vineland ranked as Cumberland County’s largest nursing home during the first quarter of 2026, data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) shows.

The facility offered 300 beds, which is 100 more than the county average for that time period. On average, 231 individuals received care there over the first quarter of the year.

CMS assigned New Jersey Veterans Memorial Vineland an overall rating of 3 out of 5, trailing the 3.4 statewide average for New Jersey nursing homes.

Preferred Care at Cumberland claimed the second spot in size among local facilities, providing 196 beds, while Autumn Lake Healthcare at Vineland took third with 190 beds reported as available in the same timeframe.

No fines or penalties were issued to New Jersey Veterans Memorial Vineland during the first quarter of 2026.

Cumberland County had one public nursing home listed during the period reported.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate the country’s older adult population is on the rise while the number of younger Americans is shrinking. Between 2020 and 2024, the nation saw a 13% increase in residents 65 and older, while the population under age 18 declined by 1.7%. Over the past century, the older adult segment has expanded sharply, moving from 4.9 million in 1920 to well over 61 million for 2024.

A 2021 study projects that close to half of older Americans—about 28 million people—could eventually need long-term services and support. The report further estimates that more than a third may ultimately rely on nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education group. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
